Two grinding spindles move along the X and Z axes on independent composite slides. The workpiece is perpendicular to two main axes and located between them. In this way, the grinding wheel has enough space to contact the workpiece and can be ground from both sides simultaneously. When grinding cylindrical workpieces, the large cutting force is an axial force that generally acts on the centerline of the workpiece. The axial force may be 3-4 times greater than the tangential force. On a dual wheel grinding machine, the axial force is counteracted due to the two wheels facing each other. This can not only shorten processing time, but also grind thin and unstable workpieces. In addition, the relative rotation of the two grinding wheels also offsets the gripping torque generated by the tangential force. This not only simplifies the replacement process, but also eliminates the need for clamping equipment. To change parts, simply lift the center of the workbench above and remove the workpiece. This brief setup process results in a high efficiency of the grinding machine in processing workpieces up to 700mm in small batches.
